Questions For Your Orthodontist

Only orthodontists receive an extra 2-3 years of education beyond dental school to learn the proper way to align and straighten teeth. Here are some questions to ask your orthodontist to make sure you are seeing a straight-smile expert.

Are you a dentist?
Are you an orthodontist?
What is the role of an orthodontist?
Have you had orthodontic training beyond dental school? If so, how much training and what type (weekend workshop, manufacturers training, or 2-3 years of orthodontic education beyond dental school)?
Has your staff had any orthodontic training?
How many orthodontic cases do you work on each week?
Do you treat all orthodontic cases or just the easiest to correct? What about complex cases?
Which cases, if any, do you refer to dentists?
How many orthodontic patients have you treated throughout your career?
Are you a member of the American Association of Orthodontists?"
